Meet Raven Rock State Park’s new Superintendent, John Privette.
John, a native North Carolinian, grew up in Union County. After graduating from Appalachian State University with a degree in Recreation Management, he went on to become the assistant manager of a fishing and scuba diving company in South Carolina.
Privette started his career with North Carolina State Parks at Carolina Beach State Park as an Assistant Park Ranger. In June of 2007 he moved up in position at Lumber River State Park as a Park Ranger. In 2014 he moved to Jones Lake State Park, and in 2018 he was promoted to Park Superintendent at Raven Rock. John says, “I hope that with the growth of the park from visitation and construction, that I will suit this park well. I really like the staff and the energy that is growing here.”
Park Rangers usually wear several hats for their job, and Privette is no exception. Working hard in his career with the Parks, among many others, he has earned certifications as Burn Boss, Intermediate Law Enforcement Certification, Advance Law Enforcement Certification, Law Enforcement Instructor, Certified Environmental Educator, Search and Rescue Technician, and First Responder, just to name a few.
John is married to his high school sweetheart and they have two daughters, ages ten and six. His wife is a school teacher looking for work in Harnett County. As a family they are excited about the move to the area and the opportunities that await them.
