Raising the raven: A new landmark at the park
by Karen Kratz
Yesterday marked an exciting moment for the park as we unveiled and installed The Raven, a breathtaking sculpture created by the talented local artist, Andy Cobb. This project has been in the works since last year, and thanks to the incredible efforts of our park’s hard working staff and Friends of Raven Rock, it has finally come to life.

The installation process was a true team effort. The post for the sculpture was set in place near the visitor center by the maintenance crew, and the crowning moment came when Liz Thomas, Maintenance Construction Technician III, skillfully raised the Raven to its perch. It was inspiring to watch the team work together to bring this vision to completion.

Edwin Patterson, a passionate advocate and the champion of this project, delivered heartfelt remarks before introducing Andy Cobb. Together, they shared the story behind the sculpture and its significance to the park’s history.

This magnificent Raven is dedicated to Dr. Bob Soots, whose legacy is woven into the very existence of this park. Without his vision and determination, the park we enjoy today might never have come to be.

We encourage everyone to visit and see the Raven for yourselves! It’s more than just a sculpture—it’s a symbol of creativity, teamwork, and the enduring spirit of those who work to preserve and celebrate this special place.
