Friends of Raven Rock News

Raven Rock State Park has exceeded everyone’s wildest expectations. With visitorship exceeding 30,000 per month, the new facilities are straining to keep up with demand.

As the new Chair of Friends of Raven Rock (FRARO), I want to welcome you. Past Chair Karen Kratz is serving as Vice-Chair, and Bill Hewett continues to serve as our Treasurer. Bill and Karen’s past experience and knowledge are tremendous assets.

With the waning of the COVID pandemic, we plan to resume in-person meetings.  Our intention is to meet quarterly at Raven Rock State Park’s visitor center.

What’s new?

  • We are in need of a secretary for FRARO’s Board of Directors. If you would like to volunteer, or you know someone who would be happy to serve for two years, please contact us at friendsofravenrock@gmail.com.
  • Many of you have used the new camping facilities. The six cabins, bath house, and 24 campsites continue to stay booked well in advance. FRARO purchased a golf cart and donated it to the park to aid the park staff in serving the camping area.
  • The equestrian users now have a hitching rail and picnic table on the western loop of the horse trail.
  • One of our biggest upcoming projects is to complete the pollinator garden in front of the visitor center. One of our new FRARO directors, Jeffery Carroll, has volunteered to serve as our pollinator project coordinator along with Liz Thomas from the park’s staff. We look forward to finishing this work in the coming months.
  • BIG NEWS! We have recently become an independent 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization, which, among other benefits, will help to streamline our bookkeeping, and our financial processes in helping the park.
  • You can now confidently make donations or renew your membership through our website.

We need your help!

FRARO’s work and projects support the staff at the park and assist in making Raven Rock a grand destination for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Its 4,800 acres provide a beautiful place to get outside and enjoy nature.

We have kept our membership dues at only $10.00 per year, and we heartily invite you to support FRARO by renewing your membership, joining for the first time, or donating. You’ll be helping a worthwhile cause.

If paying by check, please include your name, address, phone number, and email address.
