Edwin Patterson Honored with the Order of the Long Leaf Pine

Gov. Roy Cooper recently bestowed the Order of the Long Leaf Pine award to Harnett County native, and FRARO’s former Chair, Edwin Patterson. The award was presented by former congressman Bob Etheridge.

The Order of the Long Leaf Pine is the most prestigious award presented by the Governor of North Carolina. It is the highest civilian honor that anyone can receive in the state of North Carolina.

As an Order of the Long leaf honoree, Edwin is now included on a roster maintained by the Order of the Long Leaf Pine Society, joining the North Carolina recipients such as Maya Angelou, Scotty McCreery, Michael Jordan, and Dean Smith, just to name a few.

Edwin has a passion for history. Since 1981 he has been finding, moving and saving buildings dating back in the 1700’s, all of which sit on his property. Some of these buildings are set up with tables and beds and other items to remind us of what it was like in the days of our ancestors. In 2018 he donated hundreds of arrowheads to Raven Rock State Park to be put on display and educate the many visitors who pass by the park.

Congratulations Edwin – this is a well deserved award!
