Earth Day Celebration – Fun for All

There was a good turnout for the Park’s Earth Day Celebration, despite the rain that showed up a bit early. There were vendors from 4-H, Barry’s Strawberry Farm, NC Forest Stewardship, Harnett Waste Management, Harnett Master Gardeners, Sustainable Sandhills, Cape Fear River Adventures and many more! One of the vendors who makes goat milk soap, brought a one-day-old baby goat with her. The kid was the hit of the day.

Attendees learned about composting, purchased strawberries and goat milk soap, and got free coffee, apples, bananas, boxes of raisins and homemade blueberry muffins from Friends of Raven Rock.

The Park’s staff all worked hard to put this event together – very well done!

Raven Rock Trail Trek

First Trail Trek a Success

The first ever Raven Rock Trail Trek kicked off with success!  We had plenty of runners and hikers alike to run/hike the 10 miles of trails. Participants were given Trail Trek t-shirts, lunch and water. Everyone had fun and many are looking forward to next year’s Trek.

Many thanks go out to the volunteers from Campbell University who helped, and to FRARO members and Board members, especially to FRARO Board member and Trail Trek organizer, John Skuce. John, along with Park Superintendent Jeffery Davidson worked hard on the details and implementation of the Trek. Great job everyone!
